Adventure Awaits

Small-Town Charm Meets Backcountry Adventure

Rest on Main sits at the heart of an area made for exploring, where a walkable Main Street meets some of the best outdoor adventures in East Tennessee’s Appalachian Mountains. However you choose to spend your days, you won't have to travel far to find exciting things to do.

Step outside, and Main Street is right at your fingertips. Grab a coffee at Steel Rails Coffeehouse, browse antiques and collectibles at Valley Beautiful Antique Mall, or catch a live performance or vintage film at the beautifully restored Capitol Theater — a 1930s-era landmark that's once again the heartbeat of downtown Erwin. When evening rolls around, Union Street Taproom is where the locals gather for a cold drink and good company.

For outdoor adventurers, the Nolichucky River is the crown jewel of the region. Raft or kayak through the Nolichucky Gorge, where Class III and IV rapids challenge even experienced paddlers. Travelers can also opt for a calmer float, tube, or fishing trip if you'd rather take it slow. Several local outfitters offer guided trips for every skill level, right in the shadow of the mountains.

Lush green mountains stretch under a cloudy sky.

However, if you prefer solid ground, the Appalachian Trail runs right through Unicoi County. Access points, such as Beauty Spot and Unaka Mountain, offer some of the most breathtaking overlooks on the entire trail. For an easier stroll, the Erwin Linear Trail is a flat, paved, four-mile path along the river, perfect for walking, biking, or watching the wetlands wake up in the morning.

And if your visit happens to coincide with our annual AppleFest celebration, consider yourself lucky. This beloved regional event draws visitors from all over. And, guess what? It starts at our front porch. Literally.

Whatever brings you to Erwin, you'll find no shortage of ways to fill your days, and no shortage of reasons to come back.
